Treatments: IVF, PGT-A Testing

After years of trying for a baby and seeing other fertility centers for treatment, in May of 2023 we started our IVF journey at Kindbody with Dr. Cooper.

In July 2023 I started the process of the egg retrieval. I had to give myself three injections a day for two weeks, and have ultrasound and blood work done every other day. During the egg retrieval, the doctors collected 12 eggs. Out of those 12 eggs, only six were mature, five fertilized, and only one egg made it to the blast stage and turned into an embryo. We sent that embryo off to get PGT-A tested, and after two long weeks, we got a phone call saying that our 5BA grade embryo came back healthy and was good to transfer.

In September I had another surgery, to remove polyps and to make sure everything was clear to transfer our embryo. I started injections and pills to prep my body for transfer day. On October 23, 2023 we transferred our one and only embryo. We prayed that our little bean would stick. Five days after transfer we took a pregnancy test and got a faint positive. Day seven we took a digital test and we could not believe our eyes, the pregnancy test said pregnant! After years of negative tests, tears, sleepless nights, ups and downs, blood work, surgeries, injections, pills and doctors appointments, we were finally pregnant.

At six weeks pregnant I had some spotting, and Kindbody had us go to the ER to get checked out. During our ER visit, we learned that our embryo decided to split and that we were having TWINS! We both were in shock and scared, I was high risk carrying just one baby. We decided to enjoy each day for what it was and enjoy our pregnancy, as this was the furthest we have ever made it in our pregnancy journey. I had just a couple hiccups during my pregnancy, but for the most part my pregnancy went well. I had a scheduled c-section for 36 weeks, but at 34 weeks and 2 days I started to show signs of pre-eclampsia and had to have an emergency c-section.

On May 3, 2024 Steve and I welcomed our two beautiful boys, Kaiden and Karson. We could not wait to bring them home and start our new parenthood journey. Our boys are true warriors! Our 14 year long fertility journey has been an emotional, crazy journey, but I would not change a thing and would do it all over again. We cannot thank Dr. Cooper and the Kindbody team enough. If it was not for them and their determination we would not have our beautiful family. Dr. Cooper is an amazing woman! You can tell that she truly cares and will do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true. The whole IVF process is long and a lot of waiting and what if’s, but in the end it’s all worth it.

Kerri’s Advice

Don’t wait to start your family. Fertility treatments are expensive, but there are companies that have Fertility treatment benefits. Walmart’s insurance helped make our dreams come true. I know everyone’s outcome will not be the same, but I hope and pray everyone will have their miracle baby! Speak on your infertility. I kept quiet for years, and I felt so much better when I talked about it. It’s crazy how many people you meet who are also struggling with infertility. You are doing an amazing job, we all see you!
